Works train approaches Melksham
The countryside
Nearmelksham is beautiful, as you'll see from these other pictures of a works train taken during engineering works one weekend.
The railway through
Melksham was built by the Great Western Railway - one of the first branches off the main
London to
Bristol route, turning off at
Thingley junction and passing through
Westbury and Yeovil on its way to Dorchester and
Weymouth. These days, it's a sleepy backwater but it comes to life as a diversionary route when other lines are being relayed ... at the weekend, it's not unusual to see a 10 or 12 coach express making its way along the single track.
