Liverpool, great departure port for the Americas and these days still a great port - though the active docks have moved out of town. Now famous for the Royal Liver Building, the ferry across the Mersey, and of course the Beatles. But there's much else to see in Liverpool too!

The Manchester ship canal runs inland from Liverpool, and is capable of taking small freighters (but not the big ships of today) inland to Manchester.
