Imber Ranges
On
Salisburyplain, you can feel all alone even though you're in Southern England. Drive from
Melksham through
Devizes up on to the plain, and you're in land that's dedicated to military use .... which doesn't stop a great deal of agricultural activity too.

The colour of Spring

Hello, can I help you
On the Shrewton to
Warminster Road, you'll see this village in the distance but not be able to reach it ...

German village on Salisbury Plain

Map locator - Imber
Imber Village itself is in the middle of the ranges, and out of bounds on all but a very few days each year. Taken over by the Army during the Second World War, it has never been returned to the villagers who used to live there and is crumbling slowly away.
