Bradford-on-Avon is just six miles from Melksham. There's a selection of pubs and restaurants you can eat at after a hard day of learning Perl or any of the other subjects that we teach. An ancient town, set in a gorge cut through by the river Avon, Bradford-on-Avon is picturesque too.

Old mills run right down to the river - some are still fine looking buildings and others have fallen into disrepair.

The Kennet and Avon canal also passes through Bradford on Avon as it follows the river valley towards Bath. A few miles further on at Dundas, it crosses the river and railway on the magnificent Dundas Aquaduct

You're free to walk over the aqueduct and there are many paths in the surrounding countryside too. Pubs such as the Viaduct Inn will provide you with a pint if you're thirsty. Further pictures of this area on the Dundas page.

Bradford is where the Mouton Bicycle was designed; you can now see this one exhibited in the Bristolindustrial Museum


The Moulton Bicycle

The railway used to branch just to ths South of Bradford-on-Avon. The current line continues to Trowbridge, Westbury and Salisbury and the former track joined the line from Trowbridge at Holt before continuing to Melksham, Chippenham and Swindon, with a further branch via Devizes.
