History all around us

These days, the old coaching inns do a roaring trade in accommodation and food for visitors to Salisbury, Oldsarum and Stonehenge, all of which are within 10 miles.

If you want to get rather more away from the crowds, perhaps visit Larkhill, other parts of Salisburyplain, Woodford in the Avon Valley, or Woodhenge.

As well as being a tourist town, Amesbury is the main shopping town for many of the military personnel who are based at Boscome Down on the hill just outside the town, and at other bases in the area; this makes it a thriving, bustling place - especially when there's something like a local wedding on.
