The CPAN ("Comprehensive Perl Archive Network") is an open source resource that includes a wide range of Perl modules. Changes are ... if you're looking for something and you think "surely someone's done that before" that they have, and they've put it on the CPAN. On our Perl courses, we encourage our trainees to use modules that are already provided as standard with Perl or are available on the CPAN - better that than spend a lot of their time and their employer's money re-inventing something.
