Ludgershall Castle
![]()
Ludgershall Castle was a fortified home of the medieval Kings of England. Becoming
a part of the Queen's Dowry, it survived as a hunting lodge long after there was a
need for it as a true castle, but hunting in Wiltshire fell out of favour with
sucessive Kings and gradually it fell into ruin. Today, the site and foundations
(little else remain) are in the care of English Heritage, and you're at liberty to
wander around the site at no charge. Just off the A342 Devizes road on the outskirts of Ludgershall, Wilts. Show a large image More about this subject Associated topic - Well House Manor - Kennet District |
