Each summer, Melksham hosts a carnival - a week of events, culminating in a party in the park and a parade through the town. With changes in the law which allow only 50% of the carnival entrants to be on foot, some local towns have banned the very popular majorette groups from the parade - however, here in Melksham a much more positive approach has been taken and the organisers are actively encouraging extra vehicle born groups to sign up for next year rather than having to apply awkward limits on walking / marching / dancing groups.
