Bank Holiday
Have a great Bank Holiday. Offices and Monday-to-Friday businesses in the UK will be closed on Monday as it's a Bank Holiday. Bank Holidays originated in Victorian times when workers got little leave; the Spring and August Bank Holidays were their two days in the year (apart from Sundays) when they didn't have to work, and with the coming of the railway age Bank Holidays became the day when they went on excursions to Skegness, Scarborough or Blackpool. Did you know that the first railway excursion, organised by Thomas Cook, ran from Leicester to Loughborough ..... that's about 20 miles. (written 2004-08-27 07:25:30)
