Just upgraded to a 3 Mbit connection ... and finding that I can download a Megabyte in 3 seconds.  That's six times the quoted speed of a standard ADSL connection (where there are contension issues as well) and some 20 times faster that some of the "broadband" offerings I've see advertised by folks like Tiscali of late.

OK - let's be fair - most folks don't really need that much speed but it does mean that we've now got a classroom full of laptops with each looking like it has its own private broadband connection!

I reckon your 1Mbit was more than most (small/medium) companies have for all their employees, so you are net-god with 3 to yourself!

Yeah - we don't 'alf know how lucky we are   - it's at the stage where I can be running applications and I don't know if they're on the computer I'm seated at, elsewhere in the building, or halfway around the world.

The 3 Mbit link *is* shared via a router, but the chance of 6 trainees plus 2 staff all using it at the same time is pretty remote, and even if they do, they have a response better that a regular (512k) ADSL link ... it might not appear that way mathematically, but because of contension issues, it is

Oh - it's just struck me that I came on a course to your place, rather than you coming here, didn't I?  The training centre and our home are in the same building and on the same connection - so I've not got the full 3Mb personally all the time - that would be just toooo much!
