| SYNOPSIS |
The Java Cookbook is a collection of hundreds of solutions to prolems that Java programmers frequently face. The recipes range from simple tasks, such as getting your CLASSPATH right and reading information from the environment, to entire programs that demonstrate how to put XML to work or incorporate email into your applications. Whether you plan to use the cookbook's recipes directly, as a source of ideas, or as a way to learn a little more about Java and what you can do with it, the Java Cookbook will become an essential part of your library. No other single book does as much to demonstrate Java's capabilities and the ease with which you can put them to use.
Topics covered include:
- Compiling, running, and debugging Java programs
- Interacting with the environment
- Strings and pattern matching
- Arrays and other data collections
- Programming serial and parallel ports
- Files, directories, and filesystems
- Developing network clients and servers
- Web programming, including applets
- Servlets and JSP
- Electronic mail
- Accessing databases
- Applying XML
- Distributed programming
- Introspection
- Internationalization
- Working with graphics and sound
- Developing graphical user inerfaces
The Java Cookbook is an ideal "second book" for Java developers (or a first book for the self-taught Java programmer) and covers many of the APIs in more detail than the typical overview, making it eminently suitable for anyone requiring broad knowledge in Java.
